YOUR WEDDING - YOUR WAY
What kind of wedding do you want?
If you’re here, you’ve probably been thinking about it.
It might be just the two of you, something small with close loved ones, or a big celebration with everyone you know.
Whatever you choose, it’s your day — and I’d love to help make it the wedding you want!
Who Am I?
I’m David Hutton, a commissioned Notary for the State of South Carolina, which means I’m legally authorized to perform marriages as an officiant.
To me, marriage is a sacred and profound moment in life—one of the few that truly defines us. Whether it’s your first, second, or later-in-life marriage, I would be honored to help make your day meaningful.
You choose the venue — home, park, banquet hall, or church — and I’ll come to you. I usually just need a few weeks’ notice.
Your ceremony can be as traditional or as modern as you like. I love classic weddings, but I’m happy to tailor something unique to fit your style.
There are a few legal requirements that must be met, of course, and you can read more about that, here:
Why Government Regulates Marriage
But the law does not specify what the ceremony, itself, must look like. That is up to you.
So, give call me and lets talk about it! 803-687-3051.

Pricing and Ceremony Requirements
Let’s talk cost upfront, since that’s usually one of the first questions people ask. South Carolina allows notaries to charge $5 per notarial signature. Most marriage licenses require three signatures, totaling $15. In addition, notaries may charge agreed-upon fees for travel, time, and related expenses. Since I come to you, those costs apply — but my rates are fair and affordable.
Officiant Fee Schedule
Fees are based on total time (pre-planning, ceremony, and follow up), travel, and ceremony needs. The base rate is $100 (includes travel, ceremony, documentation, and incidentals).
Rates by location:
-
$100 – Lexington, Batesburg-Leesville
-
$125 – Columbia, Aiken
-
$150 – Newberry, Greenwood, Edgefield
-
$175 – Orangeburg, St. Matthews, Sumter
-
$200 – Rock Hill, Florence
-
$250–$350 – Charleston, Greenville-Spartanburg, Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach
Surcharges:
-
$50 for holidays and Valentine’s Day
-
$50 for ceremonies after 6:00 PM
Rates may vary based on date, time, location, and ceremony type.
Requirements
To ensure your marriage is legally recognized in South Carolina, you will need at the ceremony:
-
All unsigned copies of your marriage license issued by the county where the wedding will take place.
-
Both parties physically present, each with a valid government-issued photo ID (driver’s license, military ID, state ID, passport, etc.).
-
An officiant authorized by the State of South Carolina to perform marriages.
Additional notes:
-
While not required, having someone to give the bride is something many forget to plan for. It can be anyone..family member, friend, etc.
-
Witness signatures are not required in SC, but I recommend having witnesses present for added formality and protection.
Of course, this is YOUR big day - you can have as many people in attendance as you like to help you celebrate your marriage!
